Mounain Spirit Guiding

Skiing, Climbing & Mountaineering Equipment

For each trip, course or guided adventure you book with us, we send you a list of the equipment you will need!

Below you find more detailed information about the equipment that we use when climbing and skiing, and examples of specific products that we recommend.

  Index

Warm hat - either fleece or wool or a combination of both.
Sun hat - the sun is very strong in the mountains and if we do not protect our head it can effect our performance a lot.
Thermal under wear - either wool or synthetics, synthetics usually give you a bit of a dryer feeling and wool smells less.

For insulation layers we use Norrona fleeces
Fleece sweater - thin fleece layer such as Falketind pullover
Fleece jacket - Narvik fleece
Fleece pants - Falketind pants

For wind and waterproof shells we use Norrona Shell Clothing
Gore tex jacket - Lofoten XCR jacket
Pack light jacket- Falktind
Gore tex pants - Archwall pants for climbing
Lofoten pants for skiing and ski mountaineering.
Pack light pants - Falktind

Thick gloves - such as Narvik GTX /Norrona
Thin gloves - leather gloves that you can buy in any hardware store.

Mountaineering boots - stiff walking boots, that you can fit crampons onto (leather boots are usually better than plastic). We recommendScarpa freney XT, or La Sportiva Nepal Top, what ever fits best!
Downhill boots - visit a professional boot fitter! We use Fall Line Boot Fitting in Chamonix.
Touring boots - also visit a professional boot fitter!

Touring skis - about 85mm underneath the foot.
Alpine skis - about 90mm or wider under the foot, for example Fischer Watea.
Ski helmet - Rooster /Sweet protection
Touring bindings - Fritschi freeride
Skins - Black Diamond

Ice axe - Grivel length depending on your body height.
Technical axes - Grivel or Chalet Moser

Sun glasses- category 3 or 4 sun protection, but they must close well on the sides.
Goggles - Smith Prodigy

Backpack - 35L is a good size for all activities (30-40L is ok) , we use Falketind 35L /Norrona

Sun block - factor 30 makes sense.
Water bottle - 2L camel back is practical.
Avalanche transceiver - Either analogue and you will have to practise more (Ortovox F1 focus), or digital (Mammut or Tracker)
